Painting of a Japanese archer.

Japanese Archer

This original composition based on a photo depicts an archer outdoors with a stone floor, ceremonial pot, geese, and mountains added to keep a truly oriental feel. The ceremonial feel and richness of the color in his robe and background appeal to me.

The Kiss

This is a recreation of a photo from a horse race in Kyrgyzstan. The joy emanating from the woman’s face and her happy yellow ruffled dress complement the man’s regal brocade jacket, ethnic hat, and firmly planted kiss.

Ethiopian Monk 2

I painted two versions of this dramatic portrait of a female Ethiopian monk, both based on a photo taken by Ronnie Mosley, a friend and talented photojournalist. This rendition is closer to the original image in its color and tone.

Female monks have a long and great history in Ethiopia. They serve the elders of the monastery. They maintain no contact with urbanized relatives and they sacrifice their lives for God.
